Chile and Egypt are two very distant and very different countries, although both can proudly boast of being home to millenary civilizations, having thousands of kilometers of coastline and harboring imposing deserts in its interior. Precisely for this reason, many people dream of traveling from Chile to Egypt, which is a vital experience. If this is your case and you are in the process of finding out about it, this article will be useful.
Flights from Chile to Egypt
A first aspect to evaluate is, logically, the flight. Unfortunately, as of June 2024, when this article is written, there are no direct flights between Chile and Egypt. The shortest options are flights with a stopover, with journeys that rarely take less than 20 hours in total. In this case, departure is from Santiago de Chile Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez and arrival is at Cairo International Airport.
The intermediate airport where the stopover takes place will depend on the company with which the trip is contracted. For example, if traveling with Iberia and its partners, the stopover is at Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez. And if you are traveling with Air France, you will have a stopover in Paris-Charles de Gaulle.
On the other hand, the travel options become more varied if two stopovers are chosen. This increases the total duration of the trip, in most cases by more than 24 hours. However, longer duration does not always mean higher cost: sometimes flying this way is more economical. As for intermediate stopovers, the options are as varied as Sao Paulo, Doha, Bogota or Frankfurt.
Finally, the price of the ticket varies a lot and depends on several factors. The most important, the date: in July and August, prices tend to be higher, rarely below 2,000,000 CLP for round-trip tickets. On the other hand, in low season, such as the months of October or November, it is possible to find cheaper options, even below 1,500,000 CLP (round trip).
Is a visa required to travel from Chile to Egypt?
The visa issue is changeable and can vary according to the circumstances of each moment, although the tendency in Egypt is to relax the conditions for the arrival of travelers, since tourism is a very important sector for the country. Generally speaking, all tourists require a visa, regardless of their country of origin. But this visa is, in reality, a mere formality that is obtained by paying the corresponding fee (in 2024, about 2500 CLP).
The difference is in the how. And luckily, Chile is in the group of countries whose citizens can obtain this visa online (e-visa), which saves time, since otherwise you have to go in person to the corresponding window at the airport of arrival. The e-visa can be obtained from this official website of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The standard visa is valid for 30 days, with a single entry. However, there are options to extend this validity and add more exits and entries in your travel permit. Beyond that, there are no other important formalities or requirements to fulfill, except the obligation to have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the moment you enter the country.
